Fourteen residents of Dinawa village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State were kidnapped by bandits but only four have regained their freedom despite payment of ransom.
This was revealed in a post shared on X on Wednesday by security analyst Bakatsine.
“Residents of Dinawa village in Wurno LGA of Sokoto State report that bandits kidnapped 14 indigenes of the village and held them captive for six weeks, demanding a ransom of 10 million and two motorcycles. Despite payments made, only four people were released. One child was killed, while others remain in captivity.
“Families in the village are in mourning and pleading for justice and improved security since Monday. If the ransom was paid, why are the hostages still being held and how do the bandits continue to operate with such impunity,” Bakatsine wrote.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the development.
