China supports Nigeria's repression against telecommunications, online fraud

The Chinese embassy in Nigeria has expressed its support for the country's efforts to combat telecommunications and online fraud, particularly in the light of recent cases involving Chinese citizens.

A statement from the Chinese embassy, ​​signed by the Chinese ambassador to the Nigeria ambassador, Yu Dunhai, declared that the Chinese embassy maintains an unwavering position against telecommunications and online fraud, as well as any form of cross -border illegal activities.

According to the Embassy, ​​the application agencies of Nigeria's Law have intensified efforts to combat telecommunications fraud, stopping a large number of suspects, including some Chinese citizens, during the past year.

“We support Nigeria's efforts to combat telecommunications and online fraud,” said the Chinese embassy. “On the basis of this commitment and guided by the consensus reached among Chinese and Nigerian leaders, China is ready to strengthen the cooperation of the application of the law with Nigeria.”

The Chinese embassy reiterated China's commitment to protect the interests of its citizens abroad, while ordering them to comply with local laws and regulations.

“The Chinese government remains firmly committed to the protection of the interests of its citizens abroad. Through diplomatic missions worldwide, it asks the host governments to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens according to local laws and regulations.”

The Chinese government has also demonstrated its commitment to combat telecommunications and online fraud through legislation. “The online fraud and antielecommunications law of China, published in 2022, also demonstrates our zero tolerance policy and its resolved commitment to combat such crimes,” said the embassy.

The embassy expressed its willingness to collaborate with Nigeria in joint operations aimed at games of chance online, scams and other transnational crimes. “This collaboration will safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens in Nigeria and will raise the Comprehensive Chinese-Nigeria strategic association to new heights.”

By strengthening the cooperation of the application of the law, both countries aim to promote a more peaceful and safe cyberspace.
