The Federal Operations Unit, Fou, Zone ‘B’ of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Kaduna, said it intercepted 185 Cannabis Sativa blocks valued at N48.5 million.
This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna by the Superintendent Chief of Customs, Saidu Nuruddeen, Public Relations officer of the unit, in the name of the Comptroller.
Nuruddeen said that the seizure, along with other smuggling worth N220.4 million recovered in separate operations, was held on August 21 at 3:30 am
“Acting on Intelligence, the agents stopped a vehicle along the elevated passage of Tsaria on the Kaduna highway -zaria, and intercepted smuggling.”
He explained that a male suspect was arrested after nine captures containing 185 compressed cannabis compressed blocks, with a weight of 89.6 kg, were discovered in the vehicle.
“The seized substance has an estimated service value, DPV, of N48,562,500.
“Both the suspect and the exhibitions have been given to the agents of the National Agency for the Application of the Drug Law for its greater investigation and prosecution in line with the spirit of collaboration between agencies,” he said.
The spokesman added that in a separate operation, the unit officers also intercepted three vehicles that transmitted smuggling articles.
According to him, the seizures include 456 bags of 50 kg of rice with foreign sanctions, 8,100 liters of premium motor spirit, premenstrual syndrome, 178 second -hand clothing bullets, 225 spaghetti cartons, 107 used tires and 37 pieces of electrical discharges (Tasers).
He said that the total value paid of smuggling was N220,457,336.48.
The Comptroller of the Unit, Mr. Aliyu Alkali, praised the Comptroller General of Customs, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his continuous support and guidance.
Alkali reiterated the commitment of the unit to maintain the fight against smuggling, illegal trade and the entry of non -controlled goods in the country.
He stressed that seizures were part of the ongoing efforts for the service to protect the economy of the nation and safeguard national security.
