According to the reports, at least five people were killed between Monday and Tuesday in the Metropolis of Benin of the State of Edo, after a resurgence of violence linked to a rivalry between the alleged members of Maphite and Black Ax's cult groups.
The sources confirmed that the murders occurred in several places in the city, since the tension continues to grab residents following the renewed grass war.
The members of the community identified the deceased as Lucky Okotie, Yoyin, George, Lucky and Abel.
It was said that one of the victims, George, mechanics, was shot dead in front of his workshop along Oza Street, in Sakponba Road, on Monday night. Similarly, according to the reports, Yoyin was shot dead that same night around Oroghene Street, in Siluko Road, for alleged members of a rival cult group.
According to the reports, another fatal attack occurred around 7:30 pm along Wire Road, while another person was killed in broad daylight on Tuesday around Ewah Road.
A resident identified as Ibrahim told Daily Post that one of the victims, Lucky, was attacked and killed inside his home in front of his family when the gunmen assaulted their residence along the third East circular road around 6 pm on Monday.
Another ocular witness said that Lucky Okotie, one of the identified victims, had gone out to buy roasted corn when he was shot near the 2nd west area. According to the reports, he died due to lack of oxygen after the vehicle that transported him to the hospital was trapped in traffic.
According to the reports, the fifth victim, whose identity had not yet been confirmed until the moment of the publication, was killed in broad daylight on Monday around Textile Mill Road.
The efforts to obtain an official response from the State Police command of Edo were not successful, since the spokesman for the command, Moses Yamu, did not respond to the calls or messages.
However, a superior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the law enforcement agencies were actively chasing those involved in violent clashes and working to restore calm.
