Farmers in Ganaru community, Zugurma district of Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State, have reportedly discovered at least three explosive bombs.
It was learned that the explosives were found on the roadside by farmers on their way to their agricultural activities, who raised the alarm on Monday.
The president of the council, Jibrin Egade, was immediately informed, who quickly cordoned off the area to avoid casualties.
Confirming the fact, Egade expressed surprise at the discovery and stated that the community has not experienced security problems so far.
According to him, “We were surprised to discover such dangerous explosives in a community where there are no security problems. This fact is a surprise to me and the entire community.
“And I have immediately informed the security agencies about the matter.”
The Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, also confirmed the incident, stating that the command has already sent bomb experts to the scene to assess and, if necessary, detonate the explosives.
However, he revealed that only one explosive was discovered, not three as initially claimed by the villagers.
The commissioner also called on residents of the area to carry out their usual activities without fear of intimidation.
