Kelvin Danlami, a 300 level Computer Science student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, lost his life in a tragic incident allegedly related to gambling.
Danlami reportedly took his life yesterday, Monday, January 19, 2026, after mismanaging the N150,000 entrusted to him for house rent through gambling.
The Student Union Government (SUG) of the university in a statement signed by the comr. Aliyu Abubakar, Secretary General, expressed deep regret over the incident and extended his condolences to the family, friends and the Danlami university community.
The SUG described Kelvin’s passing as a tragic and irreplaceable loss, not only for his immediate family but also for his department and the entire university community.
“On behalf of the entire student community of IBB University, Lapai, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, relatives, friends, the Department of Computer Science and all the students of the University for this great and painful loss.
“We pray that Almighty God grants his family the strength, comfort and fortitude to endure this time of grief, and that he comforts his colleagues and loved ones,” the statement added.
The incident has raised concern in the university community about the impact of gambling on students, while also pointing to the need for awareness and support services to address addiction issues.
