A woman in her fifties identified as Furera Ibrahim has been beaten to death for alleged witchcraft in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
A witness told Newslodge that the incident occurred on Tuesday at Kwarin Shiddi, Katuka Village in Kiyawa around 5:00 pm when a group of family members attacked the deceased.
“The relatives of a Habiba who has been sick in bed visited a native doctor to give her medicine and he mentioned the deceased (Furera) as a witch responsible for the problem.
“The natives, about ten of them, broke into her house and attacked her with machetes and sticks.
“Two of their children were also attacked and injured while trying to prevent their mother from being killed,” the witness said.
He said the victims were admitted to Shekoni Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
Police spokesperson SP. Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident and said that the case is still under investigation.
The Jigawa State Human Rights Network said it will follow up on the case until the perpetrators are brought to justice.
