A Kano High Court sitting at Court No. 5 has ordered the Commander of Bukabu Barracks to immediately produce a soldier, Tunde Momodu, accused of killing a Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) official, Yahaya Idris Ismail.
The presiding judge, Justice Aisha Mahmud, issued the order after noting the soldier’s continued absence from the court.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor, Barrister Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, told the court that Momodu had never appeared since the case began. “The first accused, Tunde Momodu, has not attended court even once since this trial began, while the other accused have consistently appeared,” Soron Dinki informed the court.
Momodu, along with Yakubu Abdulsalam and Sagiru Yusif Bichi, are on trial for alleged conspiracy and manslaughter.
According to court records and previous reports, the incident occurred on the night of April 24, 2025, when the defendants were escorting a goods vehicle. The deceased KAROTA officer reportedly boarded the vehicle during his duty.
Prosecutors allege Momodu stabbed the officer and dumped his body into a sewer.
Judge Mahmud stressed the need for accountability and ordered military authorities to ensure the soldier’s presence. “The Bukabu Barracks Commander is ordered to produce the first accused before this court without further delay,” Judge Mahmud ruled.
The court adjourned the case to January 16, 2026 for continuation of hearing.
