The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of ten suspects in separate operations involving illegal firearms, armed robbery and livestock theft across the state.
According to a statement signed by the Command Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the operations were carried out on August 13, 2026, following credible intelligence and information from members of the public.
The Command said officers from the Dorayi Babba Division, acting on information from a member of the public, intercepted a suspicious package at Rijiyar Zaki Motor Park at around 2.30pm. A Tokarev pistol loaded with 48 7.62mm bullets was recovered.
The suspect reportedly confessed to purchasing the firearm and ammunition in another state and transporting it to another person in another state.
Police said an investigation was underway to track down and arrest other alleged accomplices in the illegal arms supply chain.
“In Rogo Local Government Area, officers from Rogo Police Division arrested five suspected armed robbers in Jajaye village. The suspects were identified as Basiru Ibrahim, 25; Saidu Madaki, 23; Sa’adu Ibrahim, 25; Lawan Yusuf, 24; and Muktar Salisu, 21.” the statement said
The statement states that preliminary investigation linked the suspects to four alleged cases of housebreaking, criminal conspiracy and armed robbery in and around Jajaye Village.
They also allegedly confessed to stealing about five motorcycles and other valuables.
The Command also reported the recovery of a stolen cow and a ram in Gaya. According to the statement, officers intercepted Karimu Mamman and Madama, both males from Jube Village, while they were allegedly in possession of the stolen animals. Further investigation led to the arrest of two other alleged members of the alleged syndicate.
Police said the suspects were charged to court for trial.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the residents for their vigilance and timely information, stating that public cooperation had contributed significantly to the successes recorded by the Command.
“The Command remains determined to maintain community policing, intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration to ensure that Kano State remains safe for all residents,” CP Bakori said.
The Commissioner also commended the officers and men of Dorayi Babba, Rogo and Gaya Divisions for their professionalism, steadfastness and commitment to duty.
