The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms and live ammunition in a major operation aimed at combating crime in the state.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the arrests were carried out by officers from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Command Base, Dorayi, following credible intelligence information.
“One of the suspects, Isyaku Maude, 37, popularly known as ‘Dan Sokoto’, was arrested at Bachirawa Quarters, Kano,” the statement read.
He was described as a suspected armed robber allegedly involved in a series of robberies in Kano metropolis.
“The suspect confessed to having committed several armed robberies in different parts of Kano with members of his gang,” the police said.
Further investigation led to the arrest of two other suspects, identified as Sahabi Danladi, 20, of Kofar Mata Quarters, and Najib Ibrahim, 32, of Bachirawa Quarters.
During the operation, the police recovered one Beretta pistol, one locally made Beretta pistol and 23 rounds of 9mm live ammunition from the suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved and commended their dedication and professionalism in the fight against crime.
“The Commissioner of Police appreciates the commitment of the officers and also thanks the good people of Kano State for their continued support and cooperation,” the Command said, noting that investigations are ongoing and more arrests may be made.
