The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed an incident of armed robbery that occurred at around 11:30am on Friday along Post Office-Murtala Mohammed road, Ilorin.
It emerged that the driver of a Sienna vehicle was attacked by armed men, leaving him with a gunshot wound to the palm and an undisclosed amount of money taken.
A statement by the spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, in Ilorin on Friday said the injured driver is currently receiving medical treatment.

The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered discreet investigations into the incident and further beefed up security across the Ilorin metropolis with enhanced deployments and higher visibility police patrols to reassure residents.

The Communist Party further advised state residents to avoid carrying large sums of cash and encouraged the use of online transactions wherever possible.
“In cases where the movement of cash is unavoidable, it is advisable to use trusted accompanying banking services,” the statement added.
The command also recommended the public to immediately report suspicious movements or people around banks or financial establishments.

The incident raised serious concerns about the safety of the residents of the state capital, considering that the attack occurred in the heart of the state capital.
