Officers of the Ogun State Police Command on Saturday arrested fourteen suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity at a forested location in the Ipara-Remo area of the state.
The suspects, thirteen adult men and one woman, were detained around 1:20 a.m. while allegedly planning to initiate new members and plotting to disrupt public order through illegal gatherings.
Among those arrested are Solomon Shobamiwo, also known as “Solo Hot”; Farooq Ogunsola; Toheeb Abolade; Balogun Williams; Ayodele Abdulkareem; Adedapo Ogunsanya; Toheeb Saka; Akpan Dara; Michael Olakemi; Habeeb Olayinka; Dapo Adeola; Adetunji Adeyemi; Henry Kingsley, all men and Nanso Blessing, a woman.
According to a statement on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the arrests were part of ongoing sweep operations against criminality and threats to public peace across the Isara, Ipara and Ode axis.
Babaseyi noted that items recovered at the scene include three locally made pistols, 11 live cartridges, four rounds of 9mm Beretta ammunition, criminal amulets, confraternity caps, a drum used for cult initiation, 19 mobile phones, a Samsung mini laptop and nine vehicles of various brands, some without number plates and others with license plates of unauthorized traders.
He said: “On January 24, 2026, at approximately 1:20 am, actionable intelligence revealed that members of the Eiye Confraternity had gathered in large numbers at a forested location in Ipara-Remo, Ogun State, planning to initiate new members and conspire to disturb the peace through illegal gatherings.
“Acting quickly, a joint team of officers from the Anti-Cultism and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, supported by personnel from the Ipara/Isara divisions, carried out a coordinated sweep operation, arresting fourteen suspects, including thirteen men and one woman.
“The suspects are being investigated and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.”
The spokesperson added that the command will continue its sweep operations and intelligence-led patrols along the axis to apprehend other fleeing suspects and ensure sustained peace, security and public safety for residents and communities.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, condemned illegal gatherings, breach of peace and all cult-related criminal activities across the state, urging youths to renounce cultism and criminal associations.
He assured residents, students, parents and stakeholders that the command remains fully committed to protecting lives and property.
