The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an alleged member of the Popular Congress of Oodua, OPC, in relation to the fatal shooting of a 17 -year -old child in the Itapo area of ​​the local government of EPE.
Police spokesman Benjamin Hondyin revealed the development on Thursday, stating that the suspect, whose identity remains unresolved, had been arrested and transferred to the State's criminal investigation department, Scid, for greater investigation.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, around 3 in the morning, when the OPC member supposedly opened fire against the teenager, killing him instantly before fleeing from the scene.
The murder caused outrage within the EPE community. The reports indicated that the residents and young people injured took to the streets in protest, marching with the victim's body from Itapo through several parts of the city to demand justice.
The demonstration, which created greater tension in the area, caused the rapid intervention of security forces. According to reports, officers used tear gas and fired warning shots to disperse the crowd and restore the order. The victim's remains were recovered and taken to a hospital for the necessary procedures.
After the launch of a human hunt at the beginning of the week, the police authorities have now confirmed that the suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
