An atmosphere of fear and uncertainty has grabbed residents and business owners in the target Ebute area of the state of Lagos after a series of alleged attacks related to the cult that left three people dead in two days.
According to reports, violent incidents occurred between Sunday and Monday, which resulted in the death of three people identified by their nicknames, Agbara, Butcher and a plumber not yet to be identified.
According to multiple ocular witnesses, the first murder took place on Sunday throughout Lagos Street, where, according to reports, Agbara was amboughly and brutally murdered.
The residents discovered their lifeless body later that night, with several deep machete wounds.
“I was inside when I heard people run and shout. I went out to see what was happening and told me that someone was under attack.
“When we arrived at the scene, we found Agbara's body on the ground, with multiple cuts of machete,” said a resident, who requested anonymity, to our correspondent.
The violence intensified the next day, since two more people were killed in what the locals believe it was a retaliation attack. One of the victims, known as Butcher, was found dead in the Makoko area.
“The news of Butcher's death broke early Monday. He was attacked the night before. We found his body wrapped in a fabric near Makoko. He had deep cuts in the neck.
“People called him butcher because his father sells flesh. He left a pregnant wife,” said another resident.
According to the reports, the third victim, a plumber whose name is still unknown, was attacked and killed near the Bridge of Abeokuta Street.
“Initially, people assumed that they were being punished for a financial dispute, since it was dragged down the street. It was not until later that their body was found under the bridge with their throat.
“This violence must stop, we need the police to take immediate measures to restore peace,” said a worried place.
Community sources believe that murders come from an ongoing clash between rival groups operating in the area.
In reaction to incidents, the State of the State of Lagos has taken decisive measures to stop the growing threat of cult violence.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Public Relations officer of the State Police, CSP Benjamin Hundayin, announced the deployment of anti -cultural squadrons in all commands of the area within the State.
Hundyin declared that the squads are fully equipped and forced to respond quickly to the disturbances related to the cult.
Their duties include intelligence compilation, responding to emergency calls, arresting suspects and collaborating with residents to dismantle cult networks.
