Police arrest 10 suspected criminals, recover weapons and hard drugs in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested ten suspects allegedly involved in criminal activities and riots in parts of Minna and Kontagora and recovered dangerous weapons and hard drugs from them.

This was reported by the spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement issued on Saturday in Minna.

According to him, officers of the “A” division in Kontagora conducted a raid in Tudun-Wada area on October 23, where they arrested three suspects: Abdullahi Abdullahi (22), Fahad Abubakar (19) and Nasiru Aliyu (28).

“They were found in possession of a large amount of marijuana, two knives and a pair of military camouflage pants,” Abiodun said, adding that investigations are ongoing.

Similarly, police officers from Minna Central Police Station carried out raids on several criminal hideouts including Angwan Sarki, Kuta Road, Sabon-Gari, Ogbomosho, Baida and Makera.

During the operation, seven more suspects were arrested: Hamza Dauda (28), Hussain Sanda (25), Sani Hassan (22), Danlami Garba (25), Saidu Hassan (19), Musa Umar (21) and Hassan Usman (25).

Items recovered from them include marijuana, shisha pipes and other intoxicating substances.

Abiodun further revealed that the suspects were charged to court on October 24, as the Command continues to intensify raids on identified crime hotspots to ensure peace and security across the state.

He urged residents to remain alert and provide timely information to the police to help curb crime and maintain law and order in Niger State.
