The Jigawa State Police Command says it arrested several suspected drug traffickers and recovered more than 4,600 wrappers and quantities of illicit drugs during raids across the state.
In a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, on Wednesday, the police said the arrests were made during intelligence-led operations carried out in different local government areas as part of efforts to curb drug trafficking and related crimes.
According to the statement, one of the suspects, Mutari Shu’aibu, a 20-year-old man from Dutse Local Government Area, was arrested along with others in towns such as Guri, Gumel, Sara, Shuwarin, Sundimina, Kazaure, Miga/Madori, Ringim, Birnin Kudu and Kafin Hausa.
Police said the suspects were found with a total of 4,658 wrappers and quantities of suspected hard drugs, believed to have been intended for sale in local communities. The drugs have been recovered and documented as evidence.
Following investigations, police said all suspects were charged to court.
Praising the operation, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, praised the officers involved for their conduct.
He said the command would not slow down its fight against drug-related crimes.
“The Police Commissioner congratulated the officers involved for their professionalism, diligence and commitment to duty,” the statement said.
He added that the police chief “reiterated that the command will not relent in taking drastic measures against drug trafficking, abuse and other criminal activities that threaten public safety and the future of young people in the state.”
The Jigawa State Police Command also appealed to residents to support the fight against crime by sharing useful information with security agencies.
The command assured the public of its commitment to keeping the state safe and drug-free.
