Police arrest six suspected kidnappers and robbers in Oyo forest hideout

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of six suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in Ikoyi-Ile, Orire Local Government Area of ​​the state.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, the suspects were arrested during a coordinated operation carried out on Saturday by officers of the Ikoyi-Ile Divisional Police Headquarters.

Osifeso said the operation, which took place at around 6:00 am in the Igbo-Awe forest near Iboran village, was carried out in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes who provided intelligence support.

He explained that the suspects had allegedly been terrorizing residents of the community before being tracked down to their hideout.

“During the operation, six alleged key members of the armed group were arrested and several incriminating items were recovered,” the statement reads in part.

The items recovered, according to the PPRO, include an AK-47 rifle with 15 rounds of live ammunition, four empty AK-47 magazines, an Infinix Android phone, an Itel phone, a Nigerian Army jungle hat, an Army life jacket and a set of Army camouflage uniforms.

Osifeso noted that the recovered materials indicated the suspects’ willingness to unleash violence and destabilize the community.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining public safety and urged residents to remain vigilant by quickly reporting any suspicious movement or criminal activity to the nearest police station.
