The Jigawa State Police Command says it has made key progress in its efforts to combat car and motorcycle theft across the state.

Police spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, said in a statement that on November 7, 2025, officers of the Safer Roads Patrol Team in Ringim, in collaboration with the Nigeria Vigilance Group, intercepted a white Toyota Hilux belonging to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).

“The vehicle, with registration number ABS 16 MR, was found to have been stolen from Dutse Metropolis,” the statement said.

“The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush when he saw the patrol team.”

Police recovered and secured the Hilux while efforts are underway to arrest the fleeing suspect.

In another operation, police on November 9 arrested Muhammad Muhammad, 44, from Gombe State, in connection with a stolen gold Toyota Corolla LE. The car, with registration number KBT 932 TJ, was reportedly stolen in Kano State.

“The suspect was unable to provide satisfactory evidence of ownership,” police said.

“He had changed the license plate number to Adamawa JMT 98PD after stealing it.”

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation before being sent to the Kano Police Command for processing.

In another incident on the same day, police at Dan Masara checkpoint arrested Suraja Gaye, 28, of Dangoli town in Kiyawa local government, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

Officers said his suspicious behavior led to a search that revealed inconsistencies in his ownership claims.

The suspect is now in custody as investigators attempt to locate the rightful owner of the motorcycle.

Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, commended the officers and guards for their vigilance and professionalism and urged them to continue their efforts.

He also asked residents to share useful information that can help security agencies track down criminals.

“The Jigawa State Police Command remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and safe environment for all residents,” the statement added.
