Speaking on behalf of protesters in Abuja yesterday, Nigerian Citizens Concerned About Shift South Convener Femi Osabinu told leaders of both parties that southern Nigeria should be allowed to serve as president in the country from 2023.

“It is only fair that after President Muhammadu Buhari, power should come to the south. Any argument against this is hostile to the unity and stability of our nation.

“It is fair that once the above positions and power are ceded to the South, we will not only be abiding by this established convention of rotation of power, but we will also be contributing to the urgent need to restore stability and national cohesion, back to our policy.

“It is the turn of the southern part of the country to produce the next president, and we believe that your party should have no difficulty in coming out with a categorical statement on this very important issue in the coming days. This must be done without delay.

“The principle of Federal Character is enshrined in the 1999 Constitution, reformed. Remember, there will be no APC if there is no country called Nigeria. Let us put Nigeria first in our resolutions.

“While we wish them well as we move towards the general election, we wish to reaffirm that nothing more than the rotation of power to the South will be acceptable to us and our people.”
