Rivers: four feared to kill while the vehicle runs to pedestrians

At least four people have lost their lives in a fatal road accident along Gu Ake Road, in the state of Rivers.

According to the reports, the incident occurred when the driver of a Toyota Camry, with the registration number, ABJ 10 EM, lost control of the vehicle and embarked on some pedestrians at midnight on Monday.

In a statement, the Public Relations officer of the State Police, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the four pedestrians were confirmed dead on the scene on Monday.

“A Benson Peter Michael, man, 36 years old, and the driver of a Toyota Camry with the registration number ABJ 10 Em, lost control of the vehicle and collided with six pedestrians.

“Tragically, four of the pedestrians were confirmed dead on the scene, while two others suffered wounds and were immediately transferred to the BMH hospital for medical care,” said Iringe-Koko.

According to her, the driver of the vehicle is currently in custody, while the accidental vehicle had been recovered and taken to the station.

He also revealed that the bodies of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPT).

“The case will be transferred to the State Transit Department for greater investigation.

“The command deeply regrets the unfortunate incident and ensures the public that justice will be attended,” added the PPRO.
