A married woman named Maijidda Alasan was reportedly hit by a stray bullet allegedly fired by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kofar Dan Agundi of Kano Municipal Local Government Area on Friday, October 22, 2025.
In an interview with EL DIARIO POST, she narrated how the incident occurred.
“I was lying in my room, suddenly I heard something penetrating the ceiling and it hit me. It sharply pierced my thigh. At first I thought it was a scorpion. But when I couldn’t bear the pain anymore, I jumped. I looked down at my thigh and saw blood gushing out. That’s when I screamed for help,” she said.
When Newslodge visited Maijidda, she was lying on a mat with her injured thigh bandaged. He explained that the bullet that injured her was recovered and taken to Kwalli Police Station in Kano City.
“We reported the matter to the police and showed them the bullet. They confirmed that it did not belong to them. However, the DPO collected it and said they would investigate. Later, some residents told us that NDLEA officers from the municipal area had raided the neighborhood on the same day to arrest the drug addicts and had fired shots. That is why we suspected that the bullet came from them,” he added.
Her husband, Garba Muhammad, said the family had spent a lot on hospital bills without any help from the authorities. He said they reported the matter to the NDLEA divisional office in the area.
“I met the officer-in-charge of the NDLEA in the municipal area. He promised to investigate the case, but so far we have not heard anything. We will not let the matter die like this,” Garba said.
He appealed to the NDLEA state commander in Kano to personally intervene and ensure justice for his wife.
Efforts to contact the NDLEA spokesperson in Kano, Sadiq Maigatari, were unsuccessful as he was said to be in China for a training programme.
The message forwarded to his WhatsApp number received no response.
The victim’s husband confirmed that the bullet, which serves as key evidence, had been handed over to the police along with photographs taken on the day of the incident for further investigation.
