Civil Society Organizations on Community Development and the Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI) applauded on Wednesday the management of the Nigerian UPSTREAM Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) during the generation of income of N12.25 billion for fiscal year 2024, exceeding the predicted N6.93 Trillones.

The director of CSCHEI New Media and Communications, Danladi Haruna, gave the recommendation through a declaration made available to Tribune Online, reiterated the group's support for the recent advice report published by the transparency initiative of Nigeria extractive industries (Neiti).

While recognizing the remarkable progress in the conduct of the licensing of 2022-2023 and the 2024 licenses round, he underlined the need for a solid participation of civil society organizations in order to improve their corporate social responsibility initiatives in the host community.

“We praise NUPRC efforts in administrative inclusion, digitalization and procedural integrity in the license process. Transparency and inclusion exhibited in the license process were generally professionals, transparent and inclusive, with adherence to the criteria published as required by the Petroleum Industry Law (PIA) and EITI provisions.

“However, we urge NUPRC to improve the civil participation of the community and direct international oil companies (IOC) to improve their corporate social responsibility initiatives in the host community.

“We also applaud the management of NUPRC to generate N12.25 billion in revenues by 2024, exceeding the N6.93 Billones planned.

“We praise NUPRC leadership for its pragmatic approaches and innovative strategies. We urge other income -generating agencies and commissions to inspire myself in the effective administrative model of NUPRC, adopting the best practices that promote transparency, responsibility and efficiency.

“In the light of the Federal Government's circular to minimize foreign training and foreign scholarships, we recommend that the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) develop a template for creating its own harvest capacities that will add value to the Nigeria economy.”

In a related development, the group commissioned the management of the National Educational Loan Funds (NELFUND) management to establish effective and efficient monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure that common Nigerian students who do not have political connections benefitly benefit from the student loan process.

“As CSO and CBO accredited, we play a fundamental role in the promotion of good governance, compliance and administrative credibility.

“We will continue to advocate for transparency, responsibility and good governance, hold governments and institutions for their actions.

“Civil Society Organizations (CSO) and Community Organizations (CBO) are vital to promote good governance, compliance and administrative credibility.

“As OSC and CBO accredited, we close the gap between the government and the citizens.

“We advocate transparency, responsibility and good governance, holding governments and institutions for their actions. The OSCs involve citizens in decision -making processes, ensuring that their voices are heard and the interests represented.

“CSCHEI monitors government policies, programs and services, providing comments and recommendations to improve.

“As CBO, we work in close collaboration with local communities to understand their needs and develop solutions. CBO implement projects and programs that promote development, social justice and human rights at the base level.

“We provide comments to governments and interested parties on the effectiveness of politics. Through our joint efforts, CBOs and CBO promote good governance, compliance and administrative trust, the creation of trust between citizens and essential institutions for sustainable development.

“We ensure that the institutions are responsible, transparent and respond to the needs of citizens. We call on all patriotic Nigerians who support the registered and accredited efforts of CSO and CBO to promote good governance and development in Nigeria,” he said.
