According to the reports, an unidentified customs officer attached to the Fingy control point in the Dandi local government area of the Kebbi state was shot dead for alleged gunmen on Monday.
According to a local resident of the Pingila village, identified as Malam Abdulrasheed, the attackers had previously assaulted nearby farms and harassed the farmers.
“They entered the farms and asked the farmers to try the food they brought from home. After forcing them to bite, the gunmen ate the remaining food and told the farmers to leave, saying that today there would be no agriculture,” Abdulrasheed said.
He explained that the assailants, who numbered around seven and drive motorcycles while carrying heavy weapons, then moved to the main road, where they met the customs officer sitting near a mosque and opened fire.
“Although the first shot was lost, the second hit him when he tried to flee to a nearby corn field. A third shot hit him fatally inside the field,” he said.
Two other officers, who were not in light during the attack, managed to escape through the corn field, although according to the reports suffered minor injuries.
The deceased officer, according to the locals, was from Maiduguri in the state of Borno and was known for sitting regularly near the mosque.
