Interior Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said on Saturday that Nigeria’s immigration management had entered a new era of digital innovation, operational efficiency and provision of citizens centered services.
Tunji-Ojo declared this in the 689 cadet parade of the basic course of the 50th Superintendent of the Immigration Training School, Kano.
The Minister, represented by the Secretary of the Board of Civil Defense Services, Correctional, Firefighters and Immigration (CDCFIB), withdrew the major of general. Abdulmalik Jibrin said the reforms underlined the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We are committed to building a smarter immigration system, safer and safer -oriented.
According to him, these measures will improve national security, improve operational efficiency and increase public confidence in service.
The minister urged cadets to adopt professionalism, emotional intelligence and an attitude of zero tolerance towards corruption.
“Its uniform is a symbol of authority. Use it to protect, not to intimidate. Serve as the face of our nation in its borders with integrity and discipline,” he said.
In his comments, the General Immigration Comptroller, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, said the reforms were repositioning the NIS in line with global standards.
Nandap praised President Tinubu and Minister for his firm support and leadership promoted by reform in the configuration of the Nigerian immigration service to a modern agency promoted by technology.
He listed key initiatives that include the deployment of electronic edges, the creation of a special border force, the introduction of body cameras in airports, advanced passenger information systems, residence permits of electronic expatriates and the new Evisa application channel.
“These reforms are designed to strengthen border governance, improve migration management and improve the provision of services to Nigerians and foreigners.
“The dynamic global environment demands that our officers demonstrate competence, resilience and professionalism of ICT,” said Nandap.
He urged cadets to reject unusual practices and serve as institutional reform champions.
Previously, the commander of the Immigration Training School, Kano, the Comptroller Idris Akande-Ozigi, said the cadets had suffered six months of intensive training to prepare them for the challenges of the national service.
Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, from the state of Kano, represented by the internal security commissioner, Vice Marhal retired Ibrahim Umar, congratulated the cadets and promised the support of the state government to the training institution.
The colorful parade attended heads of security agencies, members of the Emirate Council of Kano, families of the cadets and other dignitaries.
