The troops of Operation War of the stroke, OPWS, have arrested two alleged cattle thieves during a routine patrol in the local government area of the state of Benue, as part of the ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity and improve security throughout the region.
The arrest, which took place on Saturday, July 6, followed a reinforcement mission in support of the Nigeria Police, which had previously found armed shepherds near the Udei village.
While in the patrol, the troops intercepted two men, Raymond Abina, 32, and Sunday Faga, 21, both from the Ukolhol village, riding a motorcycle and carrying a sack of freshly armored cow meat.
After the interrogation, the suspects claimed to have bought the meat of a Fulani shepherd in the forest.
However, preliminary investigations tracked the meat to a stolen cow reported as missing from the village of Tse Pokiau, near Daudu.
The OPW commander, Males Gara, confirmed the arrest and declared that the suspects would be delivered to the relevant authorities for prosecution at the end of the investigations.
General Gara condemned the growing incidence of cattle and justice whisper in the jungle, describing as much as serious threats to the peace and security of the State.
He urged residents to avoid illegal acts and, on the other hand, collaborate with security agencies informing any suspicious activity.
