The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed a deadly road accident that claimed 11 lives and left nine others injured.
The accident occurred on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at around 4:30 pm at Bagewu Village in Ringim Local Government Area.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, on December 25, 2025, said the accident involved a red Golf 3 saloon with registration number LNG 983 XA (Jos).
Police said the vehicle was driven by a 45-year-old man from Randawa village in Manilican of Katsina State. The car was carrying 20 passengers, six men, eight women and six children, who were traveling from Masaka village in Ningi Local Government of Bauchi State to Dutsi Village in Mani Local Government of Katsina State.
According to police, the accident occurred when the front tire of the vehicle exploded while it was moving.
The driver lost control and the vehicle crashed into a tree.
Eleven passengers died instantly, while the remaining nine occupants, including the driver, were injured.
The injured victims were rushed to the nearest hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding well.
The Jigawa State Police Command said an investigation into the incident has been launched.
The command also warned drivers to avoid speeding and overloading, and advised drivers to always properly check their vehicles before undertaking any journey.
He stressed that anyone who violates traffic laws will be arrested and prosecuted.
