Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA successfully foiled a bandit attack on Sabon Garin Kwargaba village in Wurno Local Government of Sokoto State, killing several of the assailants in a fierce exchange of fire.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred around 11:30 p.m. on October 7, when a large number of bandits armed with sophisticated weapons stormed the village and started shooting indiscriminately.
Troops stationed in the area immediately mobilized and engaged the attackers in a prolonged gun duel, forcing them to retreat into the nearby forest with heavy casualties.
“Several of the bandits were neutralized, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, a soldier and a woman from the community lost their lives during the encounter,” one of the sources said.
Another soldier who suffered gunshot wounds was evacuated to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto, where he is responding to treatment.
Sources further revealed that additional reinforcements have been deployed in the area to prevent further attacks and maintain security.
“Troops have launched a tracing operation to locate the fleeing bandits and ensure lasting peace in the community,” the sources added.
