A suspect opened fire during a violent outbreak at Kentucky airport on Sunday, killing two women and wounding three men before escaping a neighboring church, where the police shot him and killed him.
According to officials, the incident began around 11:36 am near Terminal Drive, near Blue Grass airport in Lexington.
The suspect shot a soldier from the Kentucky State Police and is now in stable condition.
The Suspicious car put a vehicle in the block 3700 by Belkeou Wood Drive before fleeing the scene. The suspect fled to the Baptist Church of Richmond Road, where four people were shot.
Two women were declared dead on the scene and two other men were transported to a local hospital. The murdered women were 72 and 32, said the local coroner. One of the men who was injured suffered critical injuries while the other was in stable condition, said police chief Lawrence Weathers.
Police responded to the Church and fatally shot the suspect, who was declared dead on the scene.
The authorities have not yet published their name, but confirmed that it had a previous history of mental health challenges, use of drugs and domestic violence. According to reports, he was connected in some way with people in the church, although the reason is still under investigation.
Lexington Chief, Lawrence Weathers said the shooting has deeply affected the community. The coroner Gary Ginn described the victims and others in the Church as a very united group, many of whom were related or friends of a lot of time.
The governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear, described the tragic attack and urged residents to support each other, saying: “Violence like this does not take place in our community or country.”
The police have closed the highly nearby roads and said the investigation is ongoing.
