The governor of the state of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, explained why he accepted the state of emergency declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in March.

In a state broadcast on Friday, Fubara said that the six -month emergency rule was a difficult period for the State, but decided to cooperate with the President and the National Assembly.

“As its governor, I agreed to comply with the statement of the state of emergency and chose to cooperate with Mr. President and the National Assembly, guided by my conviction that no sacrifice was too great to ensure the peace, stability and progress of the state of the rivers,” he said.

Fubara added that the pressure resisted to challenge the constitutionality of the emergency rule, including the suspension of democratic institutions.

He pointed out that the intervention of President Tinubu helped negotiate peace among key stakeholders, including former governor Nyesom Wike, members of the House of the Assembly of the State of Rivers and himself.

“We believe that the political crisis is now behind us and that peace and stability have once again returned to the state of Rivers, although not without the hard lessons learned from the emergency rule,” said Fubara.

He urged political leaders and interested parties to put aside differences and work together in the interest of people.

On behalf of the State, Fubara thanked President Tinubu “for his paternal disposition and decisive interventions to resolve the political crisis and for gently restoring total democratic governance to our state.”

Development occurs after Tinubu lifted the six -month emergency state in the state of Rivers, declared to address political and governance problems.
