The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man over an alleged case of defilement and child abuse involving a nine-year-old girl in Nayi-Nawa area of ​​Damaturu metropolis.
The command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated in a statement that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had lured the victim several times to a shop within the Damaturu wooden shed area.
“The victim was rescued and taken for a medical examination, while the suspect is in custody.
“The investigation is ongoing and will be transferred to the Gender Unit of the state CID for further action and prosecution,” the command said.
The police command also revealed that its officers had arrested two suspects in connection with theft and fraud in Damaturu and Bade local government areas.
He added that the suspects had confessed to the crimes and would be charged in court once the investigation was completed.
Meanwhile, the command noted with dismay the increasing incidents of serious damage and injuries resulting from youth clashes in some communities, largely linked to farmer-herdsman disputes, drug abuse and other related social vices.
“The Command is stepping up surveillance and proactive policing to address these emerging challenges,” he said.
