19-year-old SUV driver runs over three police officers while evading control in Edo

A 19-year-old unlicensed driver, Nsikak Okon, was arrested by officers of the Edo State Police Command for allegedly running over three officers while evading police checkpoint.

The incident, according to a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, occurred along the Iyekogba Estate Gate in Benin City, the state capital.

The PPRO explained that the suspect drove against traffic, crossed a police control barricade, turned and headed toward the officers on duty, “knocking down three police officers who were on legal duty.”

The Command spokesperson further said that the suspect subsequently crashed into several vehicles before being restrained and arrested.

“The injured officers are currently receiving medical attention,” the statement said.

The PPRO said the black Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV, valued at N28 million, belonging to the unlicensed driver, was later recovered.

“The motor vehicle that has been in use since May 2024 was found to be unregistered.

“Items recovered from the suspect include a substance suspected to be Canadian Loud and a Sprite bottle containing a sky blue liquid suspected to be diluted refnol,” the statement added.
