The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, says a fire at Faringada Market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State destroyed 20 shops.
The agency revealed this in a statement published on its official page X.
According to the statement, the incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. and mainly affected vehicle spare parts workshops in the market.
NEMA said four containers and two vehicles, a bus and a Toyota Corolla were also destroyed in the fire, although no casualties were reported.
The agency stated that its Jos Operations Office joined the Federal Fire Service in responding to the incident.
He added that emergency services were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other shops in the market.
According to the statement, preliminary information gathered from market stakeholders indicated that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
NEMA also noted that investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
The statement added that the incident resulted in economic losses for merchants affected by the fire while investigations are underway to determine its cause.
