The agents of the Ogun State Security Network (Amotekun) arrested a suspect, identified as Obi Emmanuel, by the illegal drug trade in the area of the local government of Yewa North of the State.
The suspect, 35, was arrested in front of a chemical store in Ayotoro around 4:30 pm on Thursday.
According to a statement made available to the Daily Post and signed by the director of Intelligence and Research, Shodeke Sholanke, the arrest followed a credible intelligence received by the National State Drug Application Agency (NDLEA).
Sholanke revealed that the suspect had enlisted an alausa, a commercial driver, who was commissioned to transport hard drugs from Abeokuta to Ayetoro.
He added that the driver of an 18 -seater Mazda bus was arrested Wednesday by the NDLEA along the Abeokuta/Ayetoro road, and in the interrogation, he confessed that Emmanuel was the owner of the seized articles.
The statement says: “The arrest occurred immediately after the credible intelligence received by the National Drug Application Agency of the State of Ogun (Ndlea), which suggests that Emmanuel was orchestrating the drug agreements in the region, and had obtained the help of a commercial driver, popularly known as Alausa, which is currently in custody of Ndlea.
“During the interrogation, the driver revealed that Emmanuel was the owner of the seized elements, which led to the rapid action of Amotekun agents after an intelligence was also received from the state NDLEA, which resulted in the capture of Emmanuel.”
According to the command, the investigation is ongoing and since then the suspect has been transferred to the NDLEA for additional investigations and probably prosecution.
However, the command asked the public to remain alert and inform any suspicious activity that can threaten the well -being of the community.
While reiterating its commitment to greater collaboration with Ndlea agents to address drug abuse and treat it in the state and its surroundings, Amotekun said that the operation stressed the continuous efforts of the agency to free the society of criminal elements involved in drug trafficking.
