A 26 -year -old man, Jonathan Okoronkwo, has been sent in prison for allegedly polluting a three -year -old girl.
The defendant is in trial for a position of a count that borders child pollution before the tribunal Court Chief 2 sitting in Umuahia.
The police prosecutor, Chinyeaka Njoku, informed the court that the incident occurred on March 15, 2025 at Ugwuafor Arochukwu, in Arochukwu LGA.
It was alleged that the defendant had carnal knowledge of the child, thus committing an opposite and punishable crime with section 7, Subsection 1 and subsection 2 of the ABIA State Violence Law against the Prohibition of Persons (VAPP), 2019.
The defendant declared himself innocent of the position.
In a bail application, the defense lawyer, Mr. Okocha, argued that his client would not skip the bond, and that he has people with integrity to be guarantees.
But the prosecutor opposed the application and urged the court not to grant the accused bail, but to tow it again in the afara correctional center, Umuahia, considering the severity of the crime and the weight of the punishment, if he declares himself guilty.
In his ruling, the chief magistrate granted the prosecutor's request and ordered that the defendant be sent at the Afara Correctional Center, Umuahia.
The main magistrate ruled that the crime that the defendant is accused of committing is quite unbridled in society, adding that, taking into account that the crime entails the maximum punishment after the conviction, there is the probability that the accused evade the trial.
The matter was postponed until June 26, 2025, for additional mention.
Previously, the Court had assumed jurisdiction under section 100 of the administration of the State of ABIA of the Criminal Justice Law.
In an interview, the victim's mother, Onyinchi Abia, while narrating her terrible experience, claimed that the defendant infected the girl with sexually transmitted diseases, STDs, adds that she has been trying infections since then.
