The gunmen suspected of being kidnappers on Saturday night launched an attack in Nunya, a community in the area of the local government of Isuikwuato in the state of Abia, killing a soldier and a driver who works with a Chinese construction company.
It was met that the incident occurred on July 12, 2025. The attackers, who add up to six, supposedly arrived at the site in three motorcycles, with military camouflage and armed with assault rifles.
Ocular witnesses said the gunmen assaulted a construction site operated by a Chinese engineering firm, opened fire against the workers and killed one of the drivers.
A soldier who provides security on the site was also shot dead, with his rifle supposedly taken by the attackers before they fled.
The results indicated that assailants may have crossed from a neighboring state and is believed to be part of a notorious kidnapping gang.
The sources also claimed that the attack was led by an alleged criminal with military training that is currently fleeing.
Security agents responded quickly, performing a coordinated operation in the area. The remains of the deceased driver were evacuated and deposited in the hospital. According to reports, some spent AK-47 ammunition shells were recovered on the scene.
After a warning, a suspect that is believed to have links with the attack was arrested in a hiding place in the local government of Northern Umuahia. It is currently being arrested and in interrogation, while efforts to stop other suspects that flee continue.
At the time of presenting this report, the ABIA State Police Command has issued any official statement. All efforts to get to the Police Public Relations officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, to comment were not successful.
Security operations remain active in the area as the authorities intensify efforts to track perpetrators and take them before justice.
