The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation into the murder of a 300 level student of the Ignatius Ajuru University for alleged cultists in Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, on Saturday.
The public relations officer of the command, SP grace iringe-koko, in a statement on Sunday, described the incident as an “alleged incident of related cult.”
According to the police, the deceased student, identified as Julius Okpor, was killed by members of a rival cult group, according to the police.
The statement noted that the police officers visited the scene, and the victim was urgently taken to the Teaching Hospital of Port Harcourt University, Upth, where it was later confirmed by medical staff.
Iringe-koko confirmed that the command has launched an investigation to stop those responsible for the attack.
The statement said in part: “On Saturday, July 20, 2025, at approximately 11:30 am, a report was received at the Rumuolumeni Police Station that a Julius Okpor, a 300 -level student of Ignatius Ajuru University and an indigenous Okposi in the area of the local government of Ogba/Egbema, was fired by members of a group of rival cult.
“The tragic incident occurred around Cecilia Road, Rumuolumeni.”
The spokesman of the command also declared that the police commissioner of the State of Rivers, Olugbenga Adpoju, has assured the public that the efforts are ongoing to repress cultism and restore peace in the area.
“It also asks residents to remain calm and cooperate with the police in providing credible information that could help in the ongoing investigation,” the statement added.
