The Edo State Police command arrested an officer identified as Inspector Ojo Oloruntobi and three civilians for alleged participation in acts of extortion, brutality and theft against citizens in the city of Benin.
Moses Yamu, the public relations officer of the command, revealed this on Sunday in a statement made available to journalists.
Yamu gave the names of the civil suspects arrested such as Charles Ona, Joseph Ohis and Enoma Agho.
He claimed that civilians have been collaborating with the police inspector who serves to terrorize the city’s residents through acts of extortion and harassment.
The arrest of the suspects followed a viral video in which a victim claimed that he was kidnapped by police and subjected to intimidation, his telephone and his belongings taken strongly.
The command spokesman explained that acting on the complaint and other related reports, the police commissioner, Edo state command, on Monday Agbonika, ordered that the perpetrators were identified and arrested without delay.
According to Yamu, on August 15, 2025, the agents of the Ugbowo surveillance team successfully intercepted the suspects with a silver color Toyota Yaris and other incriminating items.
Yamu declared that the police commissioner, who strongly condemns the shameful and criminal conduct promised that the suspects would face the entire anger of the law.
“On CP Monday, Agbonika has made it clear that there will be no hiding place for dishonest elements within the force, reiterating zero tolerance of the corruption command, the abuse of position and non -professional behavior.
“The command also issues a severe warning to all officers that any police found in misconduct, extortion, brutality or any form of corrupt practice will be dismissed, arrested and processed in line with the laws of the earth,” he said.
The command asked the public members, particularly the victim in the viral video, to be presented and helps researchers with credible information to ensure that justice is served.
He assured that the command remains unwavering in their duty to protect lives and properties, restore public trust and maintain the integrity of Nigeria’s police force.
