At least eight people have been confirmed dead after an illegal mining site collapsed in Jabaka, Maru’s local government area of ​​the Zamfara state.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning, September 25, around 8 am, according to a post shared on Friday by the security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to Makama, several miners were working inside the well when he collapsed, catching many of them.

It was said that the commander of the Anti-Ailegal Mining Unit led a rescue team to the scene, where eight bodies and several victims were retired.

Rescue operations are still ongoing, since it is believed that more miners are trapped under debris.

The bodies and wounded have been taken to the General Hospital in Maru for autopsy and medical treatment.
