The alleged Boko Haram combatants launched another attack against Kirawa, a border city in the Gwoza local government area of the state of Borno, on Monday, killing a civilian and kidnapping another.
The insurgents also burned several houses, including the district chief palace, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abubakar. Some stores were also wrapped in the flames.
The local guards, the members of the Civil Task Force (CJTF) and the hunters repealed the assault, killing one of the insurgents and avoiding greater destruction. However, many people fled to the Cameroonian communities near security.
Kirawa has faced repeated attacks by recently. On Friday of last week, the insurgents ambushed travelers along the Kirawa -Pulka road, killing a CJTF member and burning six vehicles.
Confirming the incident, Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, described the renewed wave of attacks as disturbing, especially after many displaced families had recently returned home with the support of the Zulum administration.
He urged the military to strengthen their presence in vulnerable areas such as Kirawa, Ngoshe, Agapalwa and Chikide.
