The Osun State Police Command has announced the arrest of ten suspected members of a multifaceted criminal gang and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, vehicles and motorcycles during a recent operation.
This was revealed by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, at a press conference held on Monday, October 27, 2025 at the State Police Headquarters, Ring Road, Osogbo.
Gotan explained that the briefing was intended to update the public on the command’s ongoing efforts to combat cultism and violent crimes across the state. He recalled that on October 24, the command had previously announced the arrest of twelve suspected sectarians, reaffirming its commitment to combating all forms of violent crime.
“At approximately 12:45 am on October 25, 2025, we received credible information that some suspected criminals were shooting sporadically and causing panic at Minneapolis Lounge, located at Moro in Ife North Local Government Area, near the Foreign Link Campus,” Gotan said.
He explained that the room had become a criminal hideout where gang members allegedly planned attacks. Police officers from the Rapid Response Unit, he said, quickly moved to the scene after receiving the alert.
“Upon seeing the police team, the suspects opened fire, but our brave officers responded decisively and successfully repelled the attack without causing any casualties,” he said.
According to the commissioner, “the operation allowed the arrest of ten suspects and the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, vehicles and motorcycles. The supervisor and the owner of the salon are currently at large.”
“Those arrested include Adebayo Olalekan, 27 years old, Hammed Abdullah, 47 years old, Olajide Opeyemi, 34 years old, Olushola Samson, 24 years old, Salako Opeyemi, 20 years old, Majekodunmi Shefiu, 32 years old, Ganiyu Yusuf, 24 years old, Ridwan Temitope, 25 years old, Taofeek Yusuf, 25 years old. years, and Babafemi Adelowo. 28.
“The items recovered from the suspects include two English pump action pistols, two locally made pistols, one single barrel pistol, fifteen live rounds, several empty shell casings, three Lexus vehicles, two Toyota Camry cars and ten motorcycles,” he said.
Gotan further announced the arrest of Lekan Jamiu, a 22-year-old suspected armed thug, during a routine patrol by the Anti-Thug Unit within Osogbo metropolis on the same day.
“A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size pistol, four live cartridges, twelve live 9mm ammunition, quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and a variety of amulets,” Gotan said.
The police commissioner confirmed that all suspects are in custody and cooperating in police investigations, adding that they will be charged to court once investigations are completed.
