The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency, KWEPA, has arrested several people for impersonating the agency and illegally using its official documents.
The suspects were arrested while using counterfeit KWEPA materials to deceive unsuspecting members of the public and carry out illegal activities under the guise of representing the agency, according to a statement issued on Saturday in Ilorin by the agency’s spokesperson, Aliyu Jamiu Amode.
He said: “Following their arrest, the suspects have been handed over to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, for further interrogation and investigation.
“The case is currently being handled by the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served and that the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.”
Reacting, KWEPA Director General Jide Aina strongly condemned the act, calling it a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image and integrity of the agency.
He said the agency operates under strict environmental regulations and transparency, warning that anyone found impersonating the agency or using its documents illegally would be prosecuted without hesitation.
Aina urged the public, corporate organizations and community leaders to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity or individuals claiming to represent KWEPA without proper identification.
Additionally, he advised residents to verify any official correspondence directly with the agency to avoid falling victim to fraudulent practices.
He reaffirmed KWEPA’s commitment to maintaining a cleaner, safer and more sustainable environment across Kwara State, and emphasized that public cooperation remains vital to uphold environmental standards and protect government institutions from impostors and saboteurs.
The agency assured the public of its unwavering dedication to transparency, accountability and lawful operations throughout the state.
