A 28-year-old man identified as Victor Cletus has been arrested for allegedly defrauding and sexually assaulting a young woman under the pretext of being a doctor.
Newslodge learned that the suspect, who posed as a surgeon, is actually a cleaner at the Babcock Teaching Hospital, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.
According to the victim, Cletus contacted her via Snapchat and, believing his made-up credentials, she confessed to him about a medical issue involving a lump in her right breast.
The suspect allegedly demanded an unspecified amount of money as an alleged operation fee and deceptively directed her to meet him for a surgical procedure on Tuesday.
Instead of offering her medical help, he sexually abused her, stole money from her Opay account, and continually demanded sexual intimacy from her without performing any medical procedures.
Confirming the incident, Police Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, in a statement obtained by Newslodge on Friday, said the arrest followed a report lodged by the victim. He added that the suspect is being investigated and will be prosecuted accordingly.
Odutola warned the public, especially young women, to be careful on social media platforms where criminals disguise themselves with false identities to lure, manipulate and extort innocent people.
She said:
“The arrest followed a distressing report filed by the victim, who recounted how the suspect contacted her via Snapchat and falsely presented himself as a surgeon at Babcock University Hospital. Believing his fabricated credentials, she confided in him about a medical issue involving a lump in her right breast.
“Taking advantage of her vulnerability, the suspect fraudulently demanded an unspecified amount of money as a purported operation fee and deceptively directed her to meet him for a surgical procedure on 11/18/2025. Instead of offering her medical help, he sexually abused her and also stole money from her Opay account.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, while condemning the heinous act, warned online criminal predators and impostors that the Command will not tolerate any form of sexual exploitation, deception or violence against women.
