The Malam-Audu bridge, a key link between Pantisawa in the Local Governing Council of Yoro and Jalingo, the capital of the state of Taraba, collapsed on Thursday, leaving hundreds of travelers and pedestrians stranded on both sides.
The incident, which has interrupted transport along the occupied route and forced travelers to look for alternative and longer roads to their destinations, was caused by the strong downpour that lasted several hours.
Eye witnesses reported that collapse occurred suddenly, without a previous warning, although victims had not been confirmed when presenting this report.
The residents who spoke with Daily Post cited the author’s inability to fix the Namnai bridge that collapsed last year and expressed concern about recent development. They urged the relevant authorities not to treat the last incident with children’s gloves.
“We are asking the government to take it seriously because we have been separated from the state capital and other parts of the state,” said Mallam Saliu.
Echoing Saliu’s feeling, other members of the community who spoke with Daily Post said that the collapsed bridge would undoubtedly have a negative impact on the economy of the community, Taraba North and the state in general.
The incident occurs a year after the collapse of the Namnai bridge in the Council of the State of the Local Government of Gassol.
