Armed men have kidnapped a retired chief pharmacist from the Ekiti Ministry of Health, Israel Bamisaye.
A witness said that the armed men, numbering seven, abducted Mr. Bamisaye from his farm located between Ero Dam and Ekiti Farming Settlement in Orin Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area. Ekiti State.
The source said the retiree was abducted from his farm around 4 pm on Wednesday.
The incident caused a panic in the city, as residents were said to have started to leave the city in fear for their lives.
“The seven armed men had previously attacked a man identified as Ojo in the vicinity of the farm where Bamisaye was kidnapped,” said the source who did not want to be named.
“The man was asked about the whereabouts of the white men who worked in the agricultural settlement, but he replied that he did not know where they were.
“They ordered him to lie on his stomach. They ransacked his car which was parked nearby and took a sum of N4,500 which they found inside the vehicle.
“They fired a shot and terrorized the environment before finding the victim and taking her away.”
Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Sunday Abutu, could not be reached for confirmation of the incident as he did not return calls.
But Ekiti State Amotekun Corps Commander Joe Akomolafe confirmed it.
“We are aware of the kidnapping and my men are really working on it,” Komolafe said.
In May, an armed gang kidnapped a Chinese expatriate and contractor in charge of the new Ado-Ado Iyin dualization project in Ekiti state.
He was later released after the ransom was paid and some suspects were arrested by the Ekiti State Police Command.
