Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be bandits, on Saturday night kidnapped a bride, her bridesmaids and several sympathizers in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The gunmen reportedly stormed the community around midnight, shooting sporadically before taking the victims away.
Residents reported that among those kidnapped were women who had gathered to support the young bride.
Confirming the incident, Sokoto APC Chairman Isah Sadeeq Achida said the villagers had been kidnapped, adding that he could not verify whether the bride was among them or provide the exact number of victims.
At the time of filing this report, attempts to contact the Sokoto State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Rufai, were unsuccessful as he did not pick calls or respond to text messages.
The incident reportedly occurred just hours after a ransom of N4 million and a motorcycle was paid to secure the release of the previous victims in Rabah town, raising fresh concerns over escalating insecurity across the state.
Newslodge reports that Chacho, the hometown of Sokoto State Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaji Shehu Alhaji Chacho, has become the latest target in a series of kidnappings affecting several communities.
