Police in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State have arrested a man suspected of involvement in the death of popular Sayawa musician, John Zuya, whose songs had gained him many followers both within and outside his community.
Zuya, who recently returned from a successful performance in Lagos where he reportedly earned a substantial amount of money, died under mysterious circumstances shortly after his return, a development that shocked his fans and community members.
Zagazola Makama reports that days after his death, Yakubu Alhamdu, Vice President of Sayawa Youth Development Association (ZAYODA), Tafawa Balewa Branch, alleged in a Facebook video that Zuya was murdered by his close friend, Emmanuel Wakili, who is also a Sayawa artiste.
According to Alhamdu, Wakili allegedly confessed to killing Zuya out of jealousy, claiming that he had “captured his soul” and hit him on the head, which may have caused the bleeding seen on Zuya’s forehead.
The incident has plunged the Sayawa community into mourning, with many demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the late singer.
Police have since arrested Wakili and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause and motive behind Zuya’s death.
