The Nigerian music star, David Adedeji Adekeke, popularly known as Davido, has declared his Igbo heritage in a response to a tribal position that criticized his association with the Igbo peoples.
This is coming after an X user, @yakbel, wrote: “Davido only carries the full body, until when it is betrayed before resting, Yoruba Boy Dey Frolick with Ibos in 2025, they want your head and everything you have to belong to them, you can never satisfy Ibos Ooo, Ibos are not people who surround you like a Yoruba man.” “
Responding to the publication on Tuesday, Davido simply wrote“Lol, I'm Igbo for Blood.”
The user's comments followed David's recent public meeting with Highlife Bright Chimezie in Lagos.
In the videos shared on Instagram on Monday, the Afrobeats superstar was hotly interacting with the music icon, famous for its energetic “Zigima” sound.
The match came shortly after the two had a video call in which Davido paid tribute to Chimezie. He gave credit to Chimezie's song “owes to English” as the inspiration behind his own recently released song “With You” with Omah Lay.
“I was inspired by your song, God bless you,” Davido said during the call, which was published by the businessman of Cuban nightlife chief priest.
Davido's connection with the IGBO culture goes beyond music. His wife, Chioma Rowland, comes from the state of Imo, and his late paternal grandmother, Esther Nnena Adeke (Née Akparah), was also a descent from Igbo.
