A magistrate court sitting in Ila-Orangun, State of Osun, has sentenced a 29-year-old man, Olaniyan Taofik, two years in prison without the option of a fine for alleged alleged illegal entry, robbery and malicious damage to the property.
The sentence was pronounced by Judge AA Ayeni of the Court of Magistrates sitting in Ila-Orangun.
Olaniyan was prosecuted after his arrest by Osun Amotekun’s staff.
According to the charges, “Taofik illegally entered Mr. Omidoyin Clement, an Isale-osun resident in Ila-Orangun, where he stole several agricultural items, including agricultural tools, cocoa, bananas, nuts and living catfish.
“The stolen articles were valued at approximately ₦ 400,000. The convict also destroyed a CCTV surveillance chamber on the farm, causing estimated damage to ₦ 300,000.
“The incident occurred on July 16, 2025 and the Ila-Orangun command of the Osun Amotekun body was informed. The agents quickly launched an investigation and arrested Taofik while trying to sell the stolen products and equipment.”
While issuing a trial, Judge Ayeni declared that the defendant was declared guilty of opposite and punishable crimes with sections 81, 390 (9) and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of the Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
The Court emphasized the importance of deterring people to participate in repeated criminal behavior that endangers the livelihoods of citizens.
The body of Osun Amotekun in a statement of Yusuf Guewu Abass, his spokesman OK on Friday, revealed that during the interrogation for the Intelligence and Investigation Unit, Taofik voluntarily confessed to compromise the crime and admitted to having participated in similar activities previously.
The statement said that the Director of Legal Services for the body Osun Amotekun, lawyer Oydele Akintayo, prosecuted the case in the name of the Attorney General of the State of Osun.
The body also reaffirmed its commitment to maintain the law and order throughout the State.
Abass said that rural communities remain a focus for security patrols, since agricultural theft has been identified as a growing concern in the state.
He added that “the body would continue to work closely with the citizens that are respectful of the law to guarantee the safety and protection of lives and property in the state of Osun.”
