An unknown driver of a SUV Lexus on Saturday morning got into a tricycle, killing one of the passengers instantly, while other occupants suffered various degrees of injuries.
The SUV driver escaped from the scene of the accident with other occupants of the vehicle after the incident, which occurred in Peoples Club by Limca Road, Obosi, near Onitsha.
The police authorities in the state have confirmed the incident, saying that the deceased was quickly evacuated to the morgue, while those who suffered wounds were taken to the hospital to receive treatment.
The spokesman for the Anambra State Police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the area has also been tolerated to avoid violence, while the abandoned SUV has been recovered.
He said in a statement that the Anambra State Police Command has begun investigation into the fatal car accident.
Parts of the statement said: “The accident occurred in the early hours of today, August 16, 2025, in People’s Club/Limca Road, Obosi, which involves a Jeep Lexus and two tricycles popularly known as Keke.
“The police officers attached to the Isiowulu division responded quickly, said the area, recovered the abandoned vehicle and evacuated the victims to a hospital, where one was later confirmed.
“The preliminary information available to the command reveals that the leader of the Jeep of Lexus got into the tricycles, which resulted in the unfortunate death of a occupant.
“Others suffered varying degrees of injury. The vehicle was later abandoned in the scene when their occupants fled.”
He said that the police commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, ordered a large -scale investigation into the incident and appealed to the residents of the area to remain calm and cooperate with the police, since efforts intensify the efforts to unravel the complete circumstances surrounding the incident.
