The police in Rivers State caught three men. They are thought to have taken people from their cars along the Port Harcourt-Owerri road.
These men are also blamed for kidnapping a youth worker from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Rivers. The police believe they’ve done many bad things on the road, like stealing from people.
The police leader, Mustapha Bala, talked about this at a news meeting in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Bala said they caught these men because too many bad things were happening on the road. It was becoming a dangerous place for people driving there.
The men’s names are Blessing Akpelu, also known as NTA, who is 28 years old, Wisdom Amadi, also 28, and Precious Ebee, who is 30. They all come from a place called Egbeda in Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State.
These men stop cars on the road in bad ways, surprising people traveling there. Then they take their things and demand money to let them go.
The police were already watching them because many people were getting kidnapped. This included a NYSC worker and two others traveling on a part of the road called the Elele-Omerelu stretch.
Akpelu and Ebee were caught on October 17. The leader of this group, Amadi, was caught two days later, on October 19, in Egbeda.
These men admitted they did wrong. They are now helping the police find other members who ran away.
Police officers are also trying to find the weapons the men used and understand how big their group is that does these bad things.
